6 Tips to Prepare Your Home for Out of Town Guests!

This might be the most important of all. Even if the bedding is clean, sometimes if you haven't had a guest stay over in a while, the bedding can get dusty and musty. Freshly launder everything, you can even throw your pillow inserts in the washing machine. Add fabric softener for added softness and fresh scents. Or maybe it's just time for a brand new Duvet Cover or Sheet Set!

A pretty Summer tablescape only takes a few minutes but makes a big impact! It really sets the mood for the whole meal and makes everything feel just a little bit more special. Fresh flowers are a must for your Summer table. You can even pick wildflowers or use fresh herbs. Linen napkins for each guest with a linen table runner, or tablecloth. Our lilac Juliet placemats would make a beautiful Summer statement. Small votive candles around the table. Pick a color theme and run with it! (photo by Jojotastic)

Sweep away fallen leaves, pick stray weeds, wipe down all your patio furniture! Make sure your guests have some shade in those hot Summer months. An oversized patio umbrella or canopy helps to add ambiance as well as shade. Maybe add some decorative pillows or throws to your outdoor chairs for pops of color and to make the space a bit cozier. Candles always make a space better!

A brand new shower curtain can give your bathroom a quick and easy face lift. Don’t forget to change the clear liner often as well to avoid mildew and mold. Make sure your guests have clean hand towels and shower towels ready. Freshen the soap especially if it's bar soap, no old cracking bars for your out of towners! If you have dogs, like us, you can often overlook laundering their beds and toys which can hold odor and bacteria. We might not notice the dog smell but our guests will! On the other hand if your guests are bringing their furry best friend, make them feel welcomed by throwing one of our Big Pillows on the floor of their room for the little one to sleep on.

People tend to congregate in the heart of the home, the kitchen. Update your kitchen with some beautiful linen towels and use less paper towels, which aren't great for the environment anyway. Pour some hot water, white vinegar and lemon juice into your sink’s garbage disposal to rid it of any rotting food smells. Simmer some cut lemons and cinnamon sticks with fresh rosemary on the stove to create a lovely welcoming scent.
